Casper College student unveils new exhibit at planetarium

Casper College Museum Studies student Scott Gambino unveiled a new exhibit at the Casper Planetarium Thursday evening. The exhibit on Celestial Navigation was a joint effort between the Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum and the Casper Planetarium. Gambino has spent the past semester as an intern at the veterans museum as part of the Casper College Museum Studies program. The new exhibit at the planetarium was researched, designed, fabricated and installed by Gambino. The opening reception at the planetarium was well attended this evening and included a special program on Celestial Navigation given by Rod Kennedy from the planetarium. Celestial navigation was a critical part of flight training at Casper Army Air Base during WWII. Navigators were trained to find their latitude, longitude, altitude, and direction via the stars. This provided a unique opportunity for the veterans museum to partner with the planetarium for a joint exhibit. The exhibit will remain on display at the planetarium through the summer.
