UW-Casper brings new energy and experience with new director

(Casper, Wyo.) - From a basement office in Augusta, Georgia three years ago, Jefferson Edgens, Ph.D. began the process of founding a branch campus of East Georgia State College. Within three months, he set up the physical location and recruited 98 students for the campus’ inaugural semester in 2013. One-and- a-half years later, the school enrolled more than 350 students. Jeff Edgens is no stranger to challenges, today he steps into the University of Wyoming at Casper (UW-Casper) as director and associate dean of the UW Outreach School, he will embrace his new beginning with the cool head of experience and the energy of a Cowboy. With more than 10 years of branch campus experience, Edgens comes to UW-Casper with a vision. He is determined to continue growing the partnership between UW and Casper College, and increasing the awareness of post-secondary opportunities in central Wyoming. “UW-Casper is a unique educational destination in Wyoming,” said Edgens. “With programs offered nowhere else in the state, like medical laboratory sciences and technical education, UW-Casper is a Cadillac program in a very valuable area.” While Edgens is a strong proponent of UW-Casper who is excited to build awareness and increase recruitment and retention, he also believes in supporting the community through involvement in local arts, nonprofits, and activities. “I aim for synergy in the community,” said Edgens. “We need to help each other. There are people hurting in the community. We need to help people improve their lives and transform themselves. I want to be a good citizen, a good representative of the community. We can help each other. We all fit together.” UW Outreach School dean Susan Frye added, “The University of Wyoming is fortunate to have found Jeff Edgens. Jeff has a proven ability to value and grow branch campuses. He immediately recognized that UW-Casper has the faculty, staff, building, and resources that make it a true stand out, not just in Casper and Wyoming, but throughout the entire region. As director of UW-Casper, Jeff will effectively build on its many strengths. He will be working with its first-rate faculty and staff to ensure that students in Casper and throughout central Wyoming have access to affordable and excellent bachelors and graduate degrees.” Edgens is excited to bring his passion for higher education and children’s literacy to Casper. In addition, he enjoys scouting, outdoor activities like fly fishing and camping and engaging in civic organizations. #oilcity #news
