Wyoming Patriot Guard Riders stand guard for the fallen across the state

(Wyoming) - Three-hundred-ninety-eight members across Wyoming. Another five-hundred-sixty-thousand stand guard nation wide. They are the Patriot Guard Riders, with the mission to show support for the fallen. Wyoming Patriot State Director, Richard "Coyote" Parks Sr. stated, "Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives: - Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities. - Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protester or group of protesters. We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means." Navy and Army National Guard Veteran, 'Coyote' Parks went on to explain how the Patriot Guard Riders all began, and reiterated that they are not a gang or club, but an organization. "The Patriot Guard Riders organization began in 2005 in Topeka, KS. Two motorcycle riders witnessed a group of protesters outside of a military funeral, picketing against the war and disrespecting the fallen's family. The two elected to do something about it and kick started the first Patriot Guard Chapter. After ten years, the organizations has grown and now there is a chapter in every state." Parks joined the group in March of 2011 and in 2013 he was selected, as the Ride Captain for the Central Wyoming area, filling the shoes of retired Captain Jo Foster. "My main goal was to increase awareness and membership. You do not have to be a Veteran and you do not have to ride a bike. The one and only requirement, is that you show respect. Respect for the fallen warriors." Following the attacks on the World Trade Centers in on 9/11/2001, the organization took the stand, not just to honor and respect fallen military heroes, but to honor fallen police officers, firefighters, EMTs as well as Veterans. The riders stand guard with flags outside of funerals and are always open and willing to attend and escort funerals all around the state.
