Woman arrested for child endangering after leaving her five year old unattended

(Casper, Wyo.) - At approximately 2:49 pm on Friday, June 24th Casper Police Officers responded to the area of 2nd and Walsh for a welfare check. The reporting party stated that a young child was on a scooter wearing pajama pants, no shirt and no shoes attempting to cross traffic with no supervision. Officers arrived on scene, according to reports, and made contact with the child and two adult males who were standing with the child. The men advised officers that they kept the child with them there because they did not want to see the child get struck by a vehicle which they believed was going to happen. The told officers that the child had attempted to cross the street four times. Officers took custody of the five year old child and worked to make contact with his parents. The child stated that he did not know where he lived, but was riding his scooter to Rock Springs where his dad lived. Officers took the child to Spring Hill Apartments to see if anybody recognized him, they did not. The child told officers some of the names of his mother's friends and they were eventually able to locate the child's mother at a residence. Officers knocked on the door several times, noted that the door was adjar and entered the apartment to check on the welfare of the residences. They located a female sleeping in a bedroom, later identified as twenty-six year old Autumn Smith. Officers awoke Smith and asked if she had a child, according to reports. She confirmed the name of the child and officers could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her breath and person. Officers questioned Smith if she had been drinking and she reported that she had consumed approximately a pint of Captain Morgan. Officers explained the situation, as they found the boy along 2nd and Walsh and placed Smith under arrest for child endangering. #oilcity #news
