114 adventurers set to embrace Wyoming in the Cameco Cowboy Tough race

(Casper, Wyo.) - We know that Wyoming is a wonderful state to explore, but have you ever envisioned traversing it without a car, a hot meal, or a good night’s sleep? That is what 114 adventure racers, made up of 36 teams plan to do Thursday through Saturday around the 307. This is the fourth edition of the Cameco Cowboy Tough (CCT) and is a three and a half day Expedition Race organized by race company Rev3 Adventure, and this year the competition is fiercer than ever and begins in our backyard. On Thursday morning, some of the most elite adventure racers in the world will leave by bike from Casper and head to the eastern portion of the state, covering about 400 miles in three and a half days by trekking, mountain biking, river and lake paddling, and ascending and rappelling their way to the finish line back at Crossroads Park, all the while fueled mainly by energy bars, trail mix, and electrolytes and taking in rugged and remarkable scenery that can only be found in Wyoming. “We are proud to have been a part of an event that is recognized internationally as being one of the toughest adventure races in the world," said Brook Kreder, CEO of Visit Casper. “Being that this race begins with team registration here and ends with the competitors crossing the finish line here since 2013, it has brought international recognition to our area. This race will be the AR World Championship in 2017, undoubtedly the international attention will again focus on Casper.” Our Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will be at the Ramkota at 4:00 p.m. today to share some words of encouragement and welcome the racers to Wyoming. The Cameco Cowboy Tough Expedition Race starts Thursday, July 14th at Crossroads Park at 6:00 a.m. You can watch participants prove they are Cowboy Tough at Photos, updates, links to the live map, race information, and results will be published as received. All teams will have GPS trackers updating their position every 20 minutes. The Cameco Cowboy Tough is part of the AR World Series and a qualifier for the AR World Championships ( The top teams at each ARWS qualifier earn a position at the annual pinnacle of the sport, the AR World Championship (ARWC), held in November 2016 in Australia.
