Casper Police and NCSO investigating information breech of NCSO employee

(Natrona County, Wyo.)- The Natrona County Sheriff's Office does not typically release information regarding cases involving sexual assaults, but the Natrona County Sheriff's Office felt it was in the public's best interest to release some details because of the unique circumstances involved in this case. NCSO Sergeant Aaron Shatto continued to report in a recent release, On June 25th the NCSO received a report of a sexual assault that occured in Natrona County. During the investigation of the sexual assault, the victim notified the Natrona County Sheriff's Office that he/she had been contacted by the alleged suspect in the matter. The suspect told the victim confidential information concerning the case that only law enforcement and the victim should have known. The Sheriff's Office takes allegations like this very seriously and immediately began an investigation into the suspicion of confidential information being released in an unauthorized manner. During the investigation, NCSO confirmed that there was a release of confidential information in an unauthorized manner and the subject who released the information was an employee of NCSO. The employee did not release the confidential information directly to the suspect; however the information was relayed to the suspect by a family member of the employee. Upon confirming the information, the NCSO requested the assistance of the Casper Police Department to conduct a criminal investigation of the employee. The NCSO will continue to investigate the matter internally. "We take these matters very seriously and it is a very troubling issue," stated Sgt. Shatto. "This is something we want to bring to the public's attention, being a trust issue with law enforcement. We will continue the investigation and notify the public as more information comes to light." #oilcity #news
