Casper man arrested for shooting fireworks off in his backyard

(Casper, Wyo.) -On Sunday July 17th at approximately 4:35 pm Casper Police Officers responded to the area of 12th and Durbin for numerous reports of shots fired. As officers were responding to the scene, they heard a loud explosion from the area, according to reports. They arrived in the area and learned that the shots were coming from a back yard along S. Durbin. Officers made contact with a male at the residence, identified as Jacob Stotts. On scene, officers could smell the odor of burnt fireworks and observed burnt fireworks in the backyard surrounded by burnt grass. Stotts reported to officers that he had been lighting fireworks in his backyard, and believed it was okay because he was in his own backyard. Stotts turned over his fireworks to officers and officers advised him that a fire ban was active since July 17th. Stotts was arrested for disturbing the peace and possessing and discharging fireworks. #oilcity #news
