Kelly Walsh students to be the first to walk the new halls at KWHS
(Casper, Wyo.) - It was a bit of a zoo down along 12th street in Casper Monday night, but that is never a bad thing.
With KWHS football, volleyball and other activity practices, a football camp and a new school, it is to be expected.
"Today is a celebration of a lot of hard work, dedication, sweat and tears; yet it has been a labor of love and it took a great group of people to complete this feat," commented Kelly Walsh High School Principal Brad Diller in the new lobby of KWHS.
Before he began presenting many great thank yous, he first honored the founder of Kelly Walsh High School and his family, Mr. Kelly Walsh.
The grandson of Mr. Kelly Walsh, Kelly Walsh, was in attendance for the ribbon cutting along with other Walsh relatives. Principal Diller made sure to honor them as well as the founder of KW.
"Our school is truly, truly magnificent. Building a building is easy, but building a school and a community, is a challenge. We are Kelly Walsh, we are Trojans and we will be that forever," said Diller.
Kelly Walsh High School was first opened on November 7th 1965, fifty-one years later students will be making history as the first students to walk the new halls.
Many thank you were issued before the ribbon was cut, too many to name but a few of the key ingredients to the new school included:
- Samson Construction
- RB+B Architects
- Natrona County School Superintendent Steve Hopkins
- Natrona County School Board
- The State of Wyoming
- Coal Lease Bonus Funds
- Casper Community
- Many more
Sampson Construction Project Manager, Thad Litterman commented at the ceremony, "This has been a good ride, but we are not done yet. There have been a million man hours put into this, our motto all along has been: One Team, One Dream."
Natrona County School District Chairman Kevin Christopherson shared that the new KWHS gym is the biggest gym in Casper, besides the Casper Events Center, and will serve as a mainstay in Casper for various events, games and more.
Principal Diller completed the ceremony sharing a tale of a student, "One student was looking at a trophy case in the old school. She asked another student, 'Who is Kelly Walsh' the other student responded, 'We are all Kelly Walsh'. This rings true to our new school, we are all Kelly Walsh. We have come a long way from the 2013 groundbreaking to get to this point!"
