Petzl Spring 2019 line continues commitment to TOP AND SIDE PROTECTION helmet standards
Updated belay devices and helmets offer more versatility, ease of use.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (July 19, 2018) - Petzl, the leader in solution-based lighting and verticality equipment, announces a Spring 2019 product collection that continues the brand’s commitment to helmets that offer TOP AND SIDE PROTECTION, along with refinements to some of the most popular belay devices on the market. Belay device updates focus both on refined mechanics and compatibility for smaller rope sizes.
The updated METEOR® (MSRP: $99.95 USD), Petzl’s most versatile helmet, designed with climbing, mountaineering and ski touring in mind, now offers enhanced protection that complies with Petzl’s more stringent TOP AND SIDE PROTECTION testing protocol. Petzl helmets that pass these additional in-house tests guarantee a certain level of protection that goes beyond the EN 12492 and UIAA 106 standards that focus mainly on the top portion of the helmets. Petzl has recognized that impacts to the front, rear and side of the head happen as frequently as to the top, and has improved the level of protection that a helmet should offer.
Other improvements to the METEOR® include lighter weight, better ventilation, and compatibility with ski goggles or a visor. The METEOR® and SIROCCO® now have the option of adding a lightly tinted SKREEN® eye shield that protects eyes from wind and improves visibility in inclement weather. These improvements make it well suited for both summer and winter use.
“The new TOP and SIDE PROTECTION label is evidence of Petzl’s endless commitment to producing the best solutions for climbers in the spheres of performance, ergonomics, comfort, and reliability,” said Petzl’s marketing manager, Benjamin Eaton.
Also updated for 2019, the GRIGRI® (MSRP: $109.95 USD), REVERSO® (MSRP: $29.95 USD) and VERSO® (MSRP: $19.95 USD) belay devices feature refinements to accommodate thinner rope diameters. In addition, internal mechanics have been refined to facilitate smoother action. The compact, lightweight GRIGRI®, designed for the experienced belayer, has an assisted braking feature for both gym and crag climbing and now accommodates 8.5 to 11mm rope diameters. The ultralight REVERSO® and Petzl’s lightest belay device, the VERSO®, now offer more durability and ease of use. These belay devices now accommodate most rope diameters: single ropes (8.5 - 11mm), half ropes (7.1 - 9.2mm) and twin ropes (6.9 - 9.2mm).
Petzl also debuts two new rope bags, the KLIFF rock climbing bag (MSRP: $59.95 USD) and the KAB gym bag (MSRP: $79.95 USD). The KLIFF, designed with a practical opening system, offers quick access to all essential gear (harness, quick draws, shoes, and rope up to 100m) without having to lay the back panel on the ground. The bag features a removable tarp for rope protection and adjustable foam shoulder straps for a more comfortable approach. Featuring a more urban aesthetic, the KAB has two distinct compartments to separate climbing equipment from other items in the bag. The design allows the volume of the pack to adjust from 20 to 26 liters. It has a removable rope tarp and a reinforced, adjustable strap for maximum comfort.
