Lady Lavender Confections by Shekoh Adds French Flair to Houston’s Sweets Scene
Classically Trained Chocolatier Unveils Cakes, Cookies and Candies
HOUSTON, TEXAS — September 21, 2015—French cuisine chef, chocolatier and candy maker Shekoh Moossavi is adding deliciously elegant options to Houston’s culinary landscape with the launch of Lady Lavender Confections by Shekoh. Handcrafted with the highest attention to ingredients and technique, Lady Lavender Confections by Shekoh includes cakes, cookies and candies.
For almost 20 years, Shekoh has honed her craft in the world’s most prestigious culinary locales. After graduating from Florida Culinary Institute in Palm Beach, Florida, worked at Ritz Carlton Hotels in Florida, before relocating to San Francisco, California. In 2003, she opened her first successful establishment, Restaurant Gervais, in Saratoga, California, followed a few years later by Pastry Smart, a wholesale bread and chocolate company, in San Mateo, California. Shekoh also went on to open Shokolaat, a Michelin-recommended bistro and patisserie in Palo Alto, California. Shokolaat received an impressive 3 ½ rating out of 4 by the late restaurant critic Aleta Watson of San Jose Mercury News.
Her love of life’s sweeter things coupled with her interest in the science and art of chocolatiering led Shekoh to the invitation-only École du Grand Chocolat Valrhona in Tain l’Hermitage France and École Chocolat in Vancouver where she took her talent for candy-making to new heights. Shekoh also studied at The French Pastry School of Kennedy-King College at City Colleges of Chicago, and trained in the science and technology of cheesemaking at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California.
She further enhanced her commitment to the French way of crafting chocolate, cakes, caramel and marshmallows, moving to France in 2012 to learn the highly involved and time-consuming techniques.
Lady Lavender Confections by Shekoh continues the artistry and tradition Shekoh has perfected, with a menu of sweet treats made from the very best ingredients, sourced from local farms. The desserts are preservative-free and made with farm fresh, perishable ingredients, requiring their consumption soon after purchase.
Her cake offerings include the Le Fraisier, a fresh strawberry, ladyfingers, sponge cake, vanilla mousse creation and her signature Lemon and Garden Thyme Goat Cheese Cheesecake. For the holiday season, seasonal pies and holiday treats such as traditional bûche de Noël will also be available.
Shekoh’s caramels extend beyond the traditional and merge into the sublime with Mandarin Orange and Sea Salt Tahitian Vanilla options, as do her marshmallows, which range from Acacia Honey and Rose Water to Honey Lavender and Pinot Noir.
In addition to being a connoisseur of candies and cakes, she is an avid gardener and has always been smitten by the fragrance of French lavender. Shekoh planted, dried and hung the calming herb around her California food production facility, encouraging neighbors to take and enjoy and soon earned her “Lady Lavender” moniker for her sweet and giving spirit.
