FBMI Winner of the Humanitarian Award at Arab Woman Awards UAE 2014

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, the Arab Woman Awards UAE were presented on Monday December 8th, 2014  at a prestigious Gala Dinner Ceremony held at St.Regis Saadiyat Island. 

Launched in 2009 by ITP Consumer, the region’s largest female magazine publishers, the Arab Woman Awards recognise and reward inspirational Arab women who have made a positive impact to society in areas including business, the arts, charity and fashion.

UAE-based FBMI - Fatima bint Mohamed Initiative - was awarded 'Humanitarian Award 2014'. Sadaf Safi received the trophy on behalf of FBMI and declared: "FBMI is very honored to be part of the awardees this year and very pleased for the recognition it represents towards its work and efforts to empower women in Afghanistan". 

The awards were judged privately by a Judges Board chaired by Her Excellency Ameera Bin Karam, Chairperson of the Sharjah Businesswoman Council and honorary Chairperson of the Arab Woman Awards UAE Judges Board: “The Arab Woman Awards play an important role in recognising the contribution of women across all walks of life to this nation. I am impressed with the strength of the nominations we have received this year."

Other Judges Board members for the 2014 UAE awards were: Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of Health Care Services & Noor Dubai Foundation; Manal Ataya, Director General at Sharjah Museums Department; Nada Al Lawati, Founder of S.E.E.D Group and Board member SBWC; Alia Mazrouei, COO of Mazrouei Holdings and co-founder of Just Falafel; Nadine El Chaer, Editor in Chief of Ahlan! Arabia; and Nadine Y. Maalouf, Owner of the SME Advisory Group.

The carpets produced through FBMI employs traditional crafting methods, operating strictly within Afghanistan. Wool from Afghan farmers, natural vegetables dyes and, of course, a local workforce (over 4,000 workers to date) are all pillars of the FBMI program.
The organization currently has three showrooms: in Kabul, London and Dubai on Jumeirah Beach Rd open to professionals as well as local consumers. A new boutique will open soon at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi.
