Medellin has become a city of events. This April month, from 5 to 11, the seventh session of the World Urban Forum will be held in Medellín, Colombia, hosting more than 20,000 participants from 160 countries.
It is a forum organised by United Nations Agency for human settlements (UN-Habitat) every two years in a different city, this year our City of Eternal Spring will be the venue, and we could attend conferences on the theme “Urban Equity in Development – Cities for Life”, that is, about the social, environmental and urban problems, as well as about the cities development and all the challenges it entails. But not only conferences, we will also enjoy the WUF cinema with films, documentary and shorts related to urban subjects, the Urban Library where we will have publications of this subject at our disposal in physical and digital format, the Colombia Pavilion, where sessions and discussions about the urban development, the initiatives and inequalities of the country will take place, and besides, the City Changer room whose objective is to encourage development projects and to show those which have been carried on, all this revolved around the “I am a city changer” campaign which aims to show examples of initiatives focused on the progress of the cities with the purpose of generating positives impacts and being emulated.
Many are those who come from other cities and countries to take part in this forum, and this is the reason why UN-Habitat together with the Government of Colombia and the Municipality of Medellin have taken charge of creating all the facilities to allow the visitor to enjoy hisstay in Medellin in the best way. All the event will be held in thePlaza Mayor, Conventions and Exhibition centre, you could arrive by bus, taxi and metro, and you will find different informations desks in the city and other places of the country, such as airports, bus stations and shopping centres. In El Poblado neighbourhood will be several informations points, and as this is the hotel centre of the city, it will host most of the participants of the forum.

The Lleras Park, located in El Poblado, will be one of those desks and, in my opinion, the best place to stay, since it is surrounded by restaurants, bars and the best hotels in Medellin. Right there is situated The Charlee Hotel, one of my favourite hotels because it offers a magnificent view of the city, traditional and international food, constant art exhibitions in each floor, swimming pool in the highest area of the hotel, without mentioning the rooms of The Charlee Hotel are just splendid: with Jacuzzi, Teppanyaki grill, air conditioting, safety deposit box, wifi and views of the Lleras Park.

In the official website of WUF7, organisers have made the necessary arrangements to facilitate your arrival from El Poblado, as well as from other places of the city, to Plaza Mayor. You can book the transportation and settle doubts by email. Besides, you can follow the event in Twitter by #WUF7, #urbanequity y @worldurbanforum.
Ah! And do not forget to take advantage of the central location of Plaza Mayor to visit the EPM Interactive Museum, EPM Library, Edificio Inteligente, La Alpujara and, of course, Parque de los Pies Descalzos, where you could relax walking a while on the sand and going for a stroll in the middle of the guaduas.
