Upward Sports was one of 48 organizations to earn the honor for 2014, as recognized by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI). Now in its 11th year, BCWI reaches out all over the globe to survey employees of churches, Christian schools, parachurch organizations, missions groups, and media companies, among others.
Of the 48 organizations recognized in 2014, 20 were churches and 28 were other Christian organizations.
“Upward Sports has intentionally built a flourishing culture,” said Al Lopus, president of BCWI. “Developing people is at the core of Upward’s purpose, and they live this out by starting with their own staff. Like any successful sports team, attracting, retaining, recognizing, developing, and rewarding top talent are key ingredients to success. These are all strengths based on input from Upward’s employees.”
The employee feedback generated by the survey is presented back to company leadership by BCWI with the intention of helping the company learn and improve when it comes to workplace culture. The results of the survey “brought a whole new dimension of understanding” for the leadership team, according to Priscilla Moore, Upward Sports Director of Human Resources.
“You get a lot more done when you can have a culture of engagement, with employees who are able to give meaningful input,” Moore said. “We’re lucky here to have a great melting pot of ideas.”
Caz McCaslin, founder and president of Upward Sports, called the recognition an “honor” and acknowledged BCWI for helping the company learn and improve its workplace culture over the years.
“We want to be the best that we can be, because we care for our people and our staff,” McCaslin said. “We believe that our mission is bigger than all of us – not just any one of us, but ALL of us. We are very excited about this award from BCWI but we also believe that when it comes to working towards God’s vision, there is always, always room for improvement.”
