Alpha Omega Council To Honor Fox News Anchor Maria Stephanos

Boston, MA— The Alpha Omega "AO" Council, a Greek-American philanthropic organization based in Boston, will honor Fox 25 News Anchor Maria Stephanos at its 32nd Annual Lifetime Achievement Awards Dinner to be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Westin Copley Place Hotel. AO will also recognize former Boston Mayor, The Honorable Thomas Menino for his leadership, public service and ardent support of Hellenism. Former Governor of Massachusetts and U.S. Presidential Candidate Michael Dukakis will preside as Master of Ceremonies.

Maria Stephanos began her career as a Massachusetts State House reporter before joining FOX 25 Boston to become one of New England’s most prolific broadcast journalists, covering international, national, and local events. Recipient of an Associated Press Award for Outstanding Feature Writing and Presentation, Stephanos continues to land high profile assignments, which have included interviews with three U.S. Presidents and coverage of both Republican and Democratic Conventions. On her success, she once said: "I was lucky enough to know what I wanted to pursue and I love what I do right now. I am the anchor of Fox 25 news and I love it and am honored to do it."

Each year, Alpha Omega recognizes outstanding Greek-American individuals and organizations for their contributions to fields across the spectrum of American life and beyond. "Maria Stephanos illuminates New England news with her effervescent personality and compassion for the stories she covers, said AO President Thanasi C. Liakos. "She's an inspiration not only to fellow Greek-Americans but to young people everywhere." Previous AO honorees include former Presidential Candidates Michael Dukakis and the late Paul Tsongas, Ambassador Andrew Natsios, AOL pioneer and venture capitalist Ted Leonsis, and the late Greek-American actor Telly "Kojak" Savalas.

Also on this evening, a group of deserving students will be recipients of the annual Peter Agris Memorial Scholarships — a national program which has granted more than $500,000 in academic scholarships for students pursuing careers in journalism and communications.
