PeopleForBikes Extends Longtime Partnership with IMBA

BOULDER, Colo. (April 2, 2015) -- PeopleForBikes, the movement to make bicycling better for everyone, reaffirmed its commitment to the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) for 2015 with an agreement to support IMBA’s work developing mountain biking nationwide. PeopleForBikes will be directing financial support to IMBA's work to build more places to ride and connect people to those places.

"We know that when people ride bikes, great things happen. IMBA continues to be an important partner in our efforts to make riding safe, accessible and fun, and we look forward to supporting their work this year," said Tim Blumenthal, president of PeopleForBikes.

In the United States, IMBA has a local network of 180 chapters and 400 supporting organizations that work to improve mountain biking in all 50 states. The continued alliance will focus on creating more trails, bike parks and other bicycling facilities. Two specific areas of collaboration include IMBA’s MTB Project mapping effort and PeopleForBikes’ National Bike Challenge.

"PeopleForBikes' continued support shows their belief in the effectiveness of our community-based, on-the-ground efforts to expand and improve mountain biking opportunities," said IMBA executive director Mike Van Abel. "This is a powerful investment in IMBA's grassroots efforts."

In 2014, PeopleForBikes helped fund the IMBA World Summit that took place in Steamboat Springs, CO. PeopleForBikes also contributed direct additional financial support in 2014 to back IMBA’s work to build new places to ride and better connect the two organizations’ vast networks.

PeopleForBikes has been a major supporter of IMBA's work since 2001, backing IMBA's Washington, DC advocacy efforts for many years. In 2010, PFB was also a lead donor in IMBA's Public Lands Initiative—contributing $100,000 that was later matched by Trek, Specialized, SRAM and 32 members of the bicycle industry. The Public Lands Initiative generated $600,000 and continues to power IMBA’s bike and public land policy work today.
