TV & FILM Star CODY LINLEY Takes an Emotional Turn in Sean McNamara’s Highly-Anticipated Biopic “HOOVEY”

LOS ANGELES (October 2, 2014) – Actor CODY LINLEY (Hannah Montana; Dancing with the Stars) is setting his comedy chops and dancing shoes aside to star in the title role of the inspirational biopic, HOOVEY. Directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer), this heartfelt drama is set to premiere as the Opening Night feature at the Sunscreen Film Festival West in Hermosa Beach, CA on October 10th, 2014.

HOOVEY recounts the story of Eric “Hoovey” Elliott (Linley), a promising athlete with a passion for basketball, whose dreams were threatened by a near-fatal brain tumor. Battling back from surgery, Hoovey has to relearn how to walk, read, and even see clearly. With medical bills pushing his family to the brink of ruin, only their love for one another can deliver hope.

Based on the Jeff Elliott novel “Rebounding from Death’s Door,” the film also stars Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement; Family Guy) and Lauren Holly (NCIS; Picket Fences) as Jeff and Ruth Elliott, Hoovey’s parents. This indie project comes from Brookwell-McNamara Entertainment and distributor EchoLight Studios.

Linley is thrilled at the opportunity to bring this inspiring story to life, adding “This is a movie for the whole family that has a transformational message of hope and love, and I was so excited to get to do two of my favorite things at the same time—acting and playing basketball.”

Linley first gained legions of young fans for his recurring role playing opposite Miley Cyrus as her boyfriend, ‘Jake Ryan’ on Disney Channel’s mega-hit series, HANNAH MONTANA. He went on to earn millions of adult admirers as a contestant on the seventh season of DANCING WITH THE STARS, in which he was partnered with Julianne Hough and finished fourth. And, most recently Linley starred as yet another magnetic love interest, recurring on ABC Family's comedy favorite, MELISSA AND JOEY. Also, one of Linley’s latest projects includes THE PLAYROOM, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Linley’s success is no accident. The Lewisville, Texas native landed his first feature film role at the ripe age of eight in the coming of age stories, MY DOG SKIP and later in HOOT; and he studied alongside Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and Logan Henderson under the direction of the highly-respected acting coach and his Mother, Cathryn Sullivan. To date, Linley has appeared in numerous high-profile film and television projects, working alongside some of the biggest names in the business: Sandra Bullock, Kevin Bacon, Steve Martin, Natalie Portman, and Diane Lane.

Cody Linley is represented by Jennifer Patredis at Innovative Artists Management.
