HOUSTON, TEXAS – Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 6:00 – 10:00 pm International artist, Mark Bode makes his first Texas appearance at Houston Street Art Gallery Aerosol Warfare located at 2110 Jefferson, Suite 113, Houston, Texas 77003. The main exhibition titled “The Masked Lizard Rides Again” will feature original artwork and books for sale from the collection of Mark Bode and the late Vaughn Bode. A small group show of Bode-inspired artworks will coincide with the main exhibition that will feature pieces by an invited artist posse CHRISTIAN AZUL, COLERSONER, DANDEE WARHOL, DEATH HEAD, DECKWGF, DUROCK, FLIPONER, MIKE HERNANDEZ, GONZO247, GRAVE, JESTER, MERGE360, NATE NASH, SIEGO, SKEEZ181, SKEWONE, SLOKE, OSCAR LOPEZ and others.
Mark Bode will be available for autographs and book signings at an artist reception at Aerosol Warfare Gallery from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Saturday, January 18th, 2014. The evening will also feature MC Craig BBC Long on the mic, live painting of a car belonging to art patron, Chris Higham, BBOY breaking and entertainment led by Marlon of HAVIKORO and DJ Joe B of Rebel Crew on the turntables. Inspiration and Energy provided by Red Bull, Local Craft Brew provided by Saint Arnold Brewery , Creative Cocktails by Hennessy and Deep Eddy Vodka will lift your spirits. Artwork on display might be considered for Mature Audiences, parental guidance suggested. All ages are welcome at your discretion.
On Sunday, January 19th Mark Bode, Aerosol Warfare and local artists will be painting live at the Houston Food Park located at 1504 St. Emanuel, Houston, Texas 77003.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mark Bode was born in Utica, New York. He is the son of the legendary cartoonist Vaughn Bode. Mark is best known for his work on COBALT 60 and as the creator of the hit comic Miami Mice. Bode attended The Art School in Oakland, California. His first professional job was for Heavy Metal Magazine when he was asked to color his father’s black and white strip Zooks, the First Lizard in Orbit when he was fifteen. He was a fine arts major at The School of Visual Arts in New York City and studied animation and etching at San Francisco State University. His publications include GYRO COMICS, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, COBALT 60 (the graphic novel), GWAR comics and LIZARD of OZ. In his spare time, of which there isn’t much, Mark occasionally performs the Bode cartoon concert, teaches art, plays New Orleans style piano and zydeco accordion. In the near 30 years of Mark’s professional career as an artist, Marks work has appeared in HEAVY METAL, EPIC MAGAZINE, PENTHOUSE, HUSTLER , GAUNTLET MAGAZINE, WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING , GRAPHOTISM, among many, many other magazines and comics. He has had articles featuring his work in the NEW YORK TIMES, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, JUXTAPOZ and TABU TATTOO. Marks work has been exhibited in the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Psychedelic Solution Gallery in New York, Upper Playground Gallery in San Francisco, and has had art shows abroad in Berlin, London, Milan and Barcelona. Mark has designed multiple vinyl toys based on his fathers characters for Kidrobot and Mike Company in Japan and now Planet 6 in New York. Mark has worked with major clothing companies and has produced very popular Bode crossover lines of clothes for Marc Ecko clothing, and most recently and ongoing “Puma International ” where he has designed the Cheech Wizard Puma gear that is on multiple hot pic lists internationally.For more about Mark Bode please visit http://www.markbode.com/site/08/t_bio.html
