THREE SPECIAL PERFORMANCES ON DECEMBER 5-6, 2015
LOS ANGELES (November 18, 2015) – Actor/writer/producer MIKE OSTROSKI is sowing seeds of change, bringing his innovative one-man show, GROUNDWORK, back to Los Angeles for the environmentally-minded arts festival, VisionLA’15. For three special performances on December 5th and 6th, Ostroski takes audiences on a 65-minute theatrical journey through gardening, climate change, and the search for self, armed with only a few seed packets, a banjo, and his plentiful talents.
Written by Mike Ostroski and Derek Davidson, GROUNDWORK shares the story of Paul, who gets hit with the idea “grow a garden” like a meteor hitting the planet – and he’s off. He reads the books, sows the seeds, and before his first tomatoes ripen, departs on a crusade to save the planet one precious seedling at a time. Saving himself, however, will prove a much harder battle.
“I’d never thought about gardening before, but one day, out of the blue, I just had to get my hands in the dirt. It was this intense need that really piqued my curiosity,” says Ostroski, describing the impulse behind this new play. While growing his first vegetables, he realized that his journey of cultivation had all the ingredients for a great solo show. “The context is backyard gardening, but the focus of the play is the struggle to find inner-sustainability within a world of melting ice caps and rising tides.”
GROUNDWORK recently finished an encore performance in New York at this year’s United Solo Festival. In addition, this celebrated show has been staged in California, New Mexico, North Carolina, and is already booking dates in 2016. Now, GROUNDWORK finds another fitting host with VisionLA’15, an arts festival engaging communities county-wide, calling for a swift response to the climate crisis, and creatively envisioning LA’s sustainable future. Before relocating to Los Angeles, Ostroski was a long-time member of The Barter Theatre’s Equity Resident Acting Company, performing in over 75 productions. Currently, Ostroski can be seen on television as a recurring guest-star on Nickelodeon’s popular show Henry Danger. His credits also include roles on Breaking Bad and Criminal Minds; and in numerous indie films, including Shot Caller, Those Who Wait, Bad Service, and A God Fearin’ Man. He studied abroad at both Cambridge University and London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Mike Ostroski is represented by Terrie Marroquin of TLynn Talent Management (Los Angeles), Linda McAlister of Linda McAlister Talent (Los Angeles) and The Jim Flynn Agency (New York).
