What’s Up Interactive’s Social Media Campaign for the Georgia Aquarium Nominated for AMY Award

What’s Up Interactive, an Atlanta-area marketing agency, has been nominated for an Atlanta Marketer of the Year (AMY) Award for its work with the Georgia Aquarium. The selected project, titled “Pin the Names on the Penguins,” is to be considered in the “Web & Interactive Marketing – Social Media Campaign – Company Revenue <$1 Billion” category.

The “Pin the Names on the Penguins” campaign was designed to promote the new Penguin Encounter program at the Georgia Aquarium. A contest, focused on giving Facebook fans the power to name the two newest penguin chicks for a chance to win big prizes, was created to facilitate a fun experience. Keeping a tight timeline, sponsorship considerations, and platform functionality in mind, What’s Up Interactive was able to create a strategy to increase both Facebook fans and overall engagement.  The campaign surpassed milestone objectives, like contest entries and new fans, and– most importantly – provided two names for the Georgia Aquarium’s newest penguins, Zuri and Nalo!

"We value all of our social media followers," says Scott Higley, Vice President of Communications at Georgia Aquarium. "Providing value and engaging experiences for our fans on social media is a strategy to which we are highly committed. We partnered with What's Up Interactive to bring the new in-person penguin encounter to life on Facebook through this campaign. The team at Georgia Aquarium is thrilled with the online engagement this campaign generated for us – as well as the new names of our penguins.”

Since 1989, What’s Up Interactive has worked with local and national companies to provide marketing strategy, establish branding and presence in the digital market, and connect with desired audiences through SEM and social engagement.

“This is a big accomplishment for What’s Up Interactive that required two things,” said Richard Warner, CEO of What’s Up Interactive. “First, a talented team — I’m very proud of our people and the work they deliver in web, social, mobile and video. Second, it required a great client. Georgia Aquarium is one of the country’s premier attractions that entertains and educates people of all ages. They have a solid marketing and operations team that continually moves their organization forward in creative and compelling ways.”

The AMY Awards, presented by the Atlanta Chapter of the American Marketing Association, reward Atlanta area marketers for exceptional campaigns that demonstrate innovative strategy, present unforgettable creative, and produce outstanding results. Winners are awarded an AMY Awards Red Pencil. 24 AMY Award Red Pencils are presented across 11 categories, with two additional “Marketing of the Year” Awards presented to an agency and a corporate individual for marketing achievement during the previous year.

This year’s AMY Awards will take place on March 13, 2014 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. For a full list of finalists, visit Follow What’s Up Interactive on Twitter and Instagram (@whatsupinteract) for updated information on the AMY Award winners.
