Top pro cyclocross rider Shawn Milne has decided to add the title of team owner. Milne is starting his own team and expects it to be racing as early as the start of the next season which begins in September.
Milne is a pro cycling veteran, having raced this past season for Keough Cyclocross and he has also been a part of the 5-Hour Energy team. A champion rider, Milne has competed in road racing as well as his now preferred discipline of cyclocross. Among his many top finishes he has won the Air Force Cycling Classic and has represented the United States at two World Road Race Championships. He is also a former national criterium champion as well and was ranked 10th American in the Elite category.
"I am very excited to move into this next phase," Milne said of his decision to become a team owner. "I am not stepping away from riding and racing of course, because I love being out there and competing. But I have thought about this for a long time and knew this was something I was going to want to do at some point. The time is right now. And based on my early discussions I know we are going to have some strong sponsors backing the team and that matters tremendously of course."
Cyclocross, which can best be described as a cross between road racing and mountain biking, is actually the fastest growing cycling sport in the United States. It is already immensely popular in Europe which still fields some of the strongest teams in the sport. Milne's cyclocross team, which has not been officially named as yet until it closes its title sponsor deals, is expected to compete at the highest tier right away based on the level of talent the team will bring immediately. Milne expects to be racing at the Clif Bar Cross Vegas on September 10th which marks the start of the world calendar.
Harris Management will be one of the team's official sponsors and also oversee the team's marketing and sponsor deals.
