Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Announces 2015 Season of Mountain Rails Live

Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Debuts 2015 Summer Concert Series

-Featuring Legendary Country Music Artist Mark Chesnutt-

RIO GRANDE, CO., Feb. 19, 2015 – Departing two hours outside of Colorado Springs in Alamosa, Colo., The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad is thrilled to announce its seventh season of the Mountain Rails Live summer concert series. Operating on the weekends June through September, guests experience a scenic train ride through the Southern Rockies before arriving at the 9,400-foot-high Fir Summit Amphitheater. Powered entirely by wind and solar energy and accessible only aboard The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, the Amphitheater was named one of USA Today’s “Top 10 Outdoor Concert Venues” last year.

Upon arrival, guests will be treated to a one-of-a-kind concert amidst breathtaking scenery, featuring a new lineup of award-winning country and western folk artists. Scheduled to also perform as a featured concert of the 2015 Alamosa Roundup Rodeo, country music legend Mark Chesnutt is sure to rock a sold-out crowd during his Mountain Rails Live concert the weekend of June 27-28. In addition, the 2015 schedule includes a number of unique weekend festivals geared towards families and friends alike, featuring regional brews, delicious BBQ and optional on-site camping.

  • June 13-14: The Haunted Windchimes- A Colorado hometown favorite

  • June 20: Rails & Ales 2015 featuring Two Weeks in Fiji

Regional brewers and their devoted fans will come together for an unforgettable day of train travel featuring live music, handcrafted beer and delicious barbeque. Mark graces the stage during San Luis Valley Rodeo Weekend.

  • June 27-28: Mark Chesnutt

Dubbed as one of Country’s true music treasures, Mark Chesnutt has 14 No. 1 hits, 23 top ten singles, four platinum albums and five gold records to his credit.

  • July 4-5: Mountain Rails Live Music Festival Weekend featuring Suzy Bogguss

This two-day festival will feature Suzy Bogguss, seven spectacular bands, music workshops and fun activities on the mountain, with optional camping.

  • July 11-12: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band remains legendary in the Country Rock world with their multi-platinum and gold records, numerous Grammy Awards and strings of top ten hits such as “Mr. Bojangles.”

  • July 18-19: Trout Fishing in America Family Weekend

Set amidst a family carnival atmosphere, Trout Fishing in America provides a fun, family-friendly soundtrack for an enjoyable day at Fir. Child tickets (ages 3-12) are free with every full price adult ticket purchased.

  • July 25-26: John McCutcheon

  • August 1-2: Juice Newton

  • August 8-9: Flying Burrito Brothers

  • August 15-16: The Wranglers

  • August 22-23: Doctor Robert Tribute, Beatles Tribute Band

  • August 29-30: Robin and Linda Williams

  • September 5-6: Exile

  • September 12-13: Michael Martin Murphey

Tickets begin at $19 per adult and $9 per child. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more on most departures.

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad winds its way through the Southern Rockies on historic railcars, including two authentic City of New Orleans club cars, pulled by a stylish mid-century diesel engine. Guests can choose from a number of excursions, special events or a one-of-a-kind concert at the top of Fir Summit Amphitheater at 9,400 feet. The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad departs from the Alamosa Train Depot at 610 State Ave, Alamosa, CO. Visitors to Alamosa can also enjoy a bounty of other activities and attractions including Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, the Luther Bean Museum or Fort Garland.
