They say a picture is worth a thousand words, if that’s true then the artwork hanging on walls of the Glenwood Hot Springs speaks volumes. The works of acclaimed Western painter Jack Roberts are on public display in the lobbies of Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge and the Glenwood Hot Springs Athletic Club. If you’re visiting, especially if you’re a guest at the Lodge, don’t miss this opportunity to take a peek into the past.
The paintings colorfully capture the people, places and events that shaped Colorado history and Glenwood Springs’ in particular. Roberts’ paintings pay homage to a variety of subjects including the Ute Indians discovering the hot springs, fur trading and pioneer life, the pool filled with a jubilant crowd of Victorian patrons, and a moonlit hayride past the “Swan Fountain.”
Roberts’ paintings are chocked full of detail. Take a look at the painting of Victorian bathers located in the Athletic Club. Notice the separate men’s and women’s pool entrances, bathing costumes that include hats and stockings, women strolling the deck with parasols and kids playing on a giant log floating in the pool! Imagine what that would have been like!
As you stroll around the property before or after a day at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, be sure to notice the many historic and charming reproduction photographs also on display for your enjoyment.
