Orangetheory Fitness Names Winners in $25,000 National Weight Loss Challenge

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Mar. 24, 2014Orangetheory® Fitness (, the energizing interval fitness franchise and first to use heart-rate-monitored training for scientifically proven results, has announced the winners of its third annual 6-Week National Weight Loss Challenge. Orangetheory Fitness is affordable group personal training based on the science of afterburn. Participants use heart-rate monitors to maintain their personal target zone during high-intensity intervals of cardiovascular and strength training, designed to stimulate metabolism and increase energy for maximum calorie burn.

Micki Benson, a member of the Plymouth, Minn. studio, logged the highest percentage of weight loss among female participants during the 6-Week National Weight Loss Challenge, at 24.74 percent. Pete Boulajeris, a member of the Willow Grove, Penn. studio, achieved 25.01 percent weight loss, the highest percentage among male participants. Benson and Boulajeris were each presented with $10,000 in cash and prizes each for their top finishes in the nationwide challenge.

Runners-up Baywood Nguyen from the Miami Lakes, Fla. studio, and Doug Thibault of the Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada studio, were each awarded $2,500 for finishing the challenge with the second-highest percentage of weight loss overall for females and males, at 21.72 and 23.66 percent, respectively. Orangetheory Fitness named two local winners at each studio – one male, one female – and selected the national winner based on best results overall. Many studios hosted parties to celebrate their winners.

Participants in the 6-Week National Weight Loss Challenge attended a minimum of three 60-minute Orangetheory Fitness sessions per week. Thousands of men and women from more than 60 studios in states across the country and Canada participated. Studios typically host a 6-Week Challenge each time a new franchise opens, along with other shorter contests throughout the year. This is the third annual Nationwide Weight Loss Challenge.
