At a press event last week in Gothenburg, Sweden, Volvo Penta announced updates to its comprehensive offer for the marine commercial market, including availability of the new D8 and IPS propulsion packages, as well as new products and services that are available targeted to marine commercial use.
“From helm to prop, Volvo Penta offers a total solution that is designed with the customer’s bottom line in mind. We understand the marine commercial market’s demand for powerful, durable products that perform seamlessly in any condition. The new products and service enhancements introduced at last week’s event are designed with your productivity, and an improved total cost of ownership, in mind,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas.
Expanded Range of IPS
Together with a new 8-liter engine launched for the marine commercial market, the latest Volvo Penta IPS package reconfirms Volvo Penta as a pioneer in the marine industry. For customers, this means an even greater choice of high performance vessels in which to use the revolutionary IPS.
Introduction of D8 for Commercial Market
This new engine, which expands Volvo Penta’s diesel lineup, offers superb performance and reliability in a compact design for a variety of high-speed work and patrol boats.
Enhancements to Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) and Joystick for Heavy-Duty Use
The casting of Volvo Penta’s EVC control lever and joystick have been improved to become more durable and resistant to water and chemicals.
Expansion of Reman Offer for Marine Products
IPS drives and components are now among the products that can be remanufactured and added to the Volvo Penta Exchange system – a service which enables customers to have components replaced more quickly and offers a cost-effective alternative to repair and overhaul.
Vessels in the marine commercial market now have the option of a Volvo Penta D11 type approved engine.
“The Volvo Penta D8-450, 510 and 550 represent the next step in modern Tier 3 technology for the marine commercial market. This exceptional performer offers better fuel efficiency than its D9 Tier 2 predecessor and is characterized by Volvo Penta’s marine torque curve and industry leading low NVH for improved operator comfort,” said Marcia Kull, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta of the Americas.
