Schumacher extends lead in Top Fuel

        READING, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2014) – Tony Schumacher knows championships.
        The seven-time NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Top Fuel champion took his fifth victory of the season at the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway and increased his lead in the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship to 134 points, a huge lead with two races remaining.
        Schumacher was one of four drivers to win on Goodyear tires at Maple Grove. The others included Matt Hagan (in Funny Car), Rodger Brogdon (Pro Stock) and Arnie Martel (Competition Eliminator). Martel’s category is part of the NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsmen.
        Schumacher beat Brittany Force in the Top Fuel final. The victory was the 500th round win of his record-setting career. Schumacher has 2,462 points. Doug Kalitta is next with 2,328.
        Hagan beat Tommy Johnson Jr. in the Maple Grove final. Hagan’s victory at Maple Grove pushed him into the lead ahead of John Force in the Funny Car title race. Hagan leads Force 2,421-2,387.
        Brogdon beat Allen Johnson in the Pro Stock final. The championship struggle is close at the top. Jason Line leads with 2,421, trailed by Eric Enders-Stevens with 2,386.
        Martel grabbed the 14th national victory in Competition Eliminator.
