VPR Classical’s Student Composer Showcase is a collaboration with Music-COMP, a music composition mentoring program that matches aspiring students with accomplished composers and supports live performances of their work. The monthly series launched in 2013.

"VPR Classical is committed to engaging with younger audiences and showcasing talented musicians of all ages in our region," said VPR Classical Managing Producer Kari Anderson.  "It’s an honor to work with these young composers, and share the results of their hard work and their excellent music with VPR Classical listeners everywhere."

Woodmansee said her quartet began as a fugue. “I moved away from that idea as the piece moved forward. It begins with a theme that is repeated several times and then moves into a section with quick repetitions and a sharp texture.”

Adele Woodmansee has been composing music with Music-COMP for three years and has had pieces performed at its Opus 24, 25, 26 and 27 concerts, as well as with the Burlington Ensemble String Quartet Project. She has been playing violin for 11 years and currently studies violin and chamber music in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She has participated in the Vermont Youth Orchestra as well as the All State and All New England music festivals, placing as concertmaster in the All State orchestra in 9th and 12th grade.

Adele is also a Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholar, and is interested in foreign languages, especially Spanish and Arabic. She speaks Spanish fluently and has studied abroad in Mexico and Morocco. She enjoys running and nordic skiing.

After traveling next year, Adele will enroll at Harvard University in Fall 2015.
