BOSTON – July 7, 2014 – Global marketing and technology agency DigitasLBi is hosting its 15th annual Eternship program, from July 7-11. Held at DigitasLBi’s office in Boston, Eternship is a week-long marketing bootcamp for local high school students to live and breathe the creation of an advertising campaign. Since its launch in 2000, over 350 students have participated.
How it works: 25 students will be presented with a client challenge at the start of the week. Guided by 125 DigitasLBi employee volunteers, the group will be immersed into the agency to learn about different capabilities, including media, technology, creative, strategy & analytics, and more. They’ll also receive lessons on public speaking and how to give a client presentation, and participate in individual mentoring sessions with agency employees. Working together in small teams, the students will present their campaigns to a panel of judges at the end of the week.
“We’re so proud and excited to see Eternship reach this milestone,” says Melissa York, Vice President/Group Account Director, and chair of the Eternship program. “Year after year, the program has introduced new perspectives and opportunities to students across Greater Boston. They learn about careers and skills that they never thought of before. And in turn, we always find ourselves inspired by their passion, creativity, and bold ideas—these students are truly fearless.”
This year, several of the students are coming in through DigitasLBi’s partnership with two nonprofit organizations: Let’s Get Ready and Minds Matter, both of which guide low-income high school students through the process of applying to college. Let’s Get Ready’s New England Director, Nakia Navarro, will also serve as one of the judges at the end of the week, alongside several DigitasLBi executives, including Barbara Goose, President, DigitasLBi Boston and Detroit.
Grants, Fundraisers, Presidential Service Awards: DigitasLBi in the Community
Eternship comes on the heels of numerous other DigitasLBi community initiatives throughout Boston. Last week, the agency awarded grants to three different nonprofit organizations through its Hearts in Action program: the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, the Pete Frates #3 Fund, and the MSPCA. And earlier this month three DigitasLBi employees were honored with Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for their work with Citizen Schools, a nonprofit organization that partners with middle schools to provide an expanded learning day, rich with opportunities.
In May, the agency partnered with Girl Develop It to host low-cost HTML and CSS coding classes for women. That same month 350 DigitasLBi employees volunteered for the agency’s annual Community Service Day event, helping non-profit Cradles to Crayons put together packages of toys, clothing, books, and more to benefit over 3,000 children in Massachusetts—in just one day.
On top of that, nationally the agency is offering a $5,000 academic scholarship to one participant of the Multicultural Advertising Intern Program, administered by the American Association of Advertising Agencies Foundation.
