In honour of Small Business Month, Benchmark Law will be hosting two Small Business Advice-a-thons, offering free business consultations for entrepreneurs

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, October 2, 2014 – On October 17 and October 24 in Vancouver and Surrey respectively, Benchmark Law will be hosting an event offering free tips and advice specifically targeted to small business owners. At the Advice-a-thons, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to book complimentary 20-minute sessions with a wide range of consultants ranging from lawyers and accountants to web designers, human resource experts and more.

The Advice-a-thons will take place at the Creekside Community Centre on October 17 and the Guildford Golf & Country Club on October 24 from 10 am through 4 pm. The event is being organized by Benchmark Law, a Vancouver and Surrey-based law firm offering full-scale business services but strictly to small and micro business owners.  Dana Gordon founded Benchmark Law in 2012 after noticing a distinct need in the market for a small business law firm. Passionate about helping guide and support budding entrepreneurs and small businesses, Gordon has brought together a group of more than 30 respected consultants specializing in small businesses for the day-long events as part of B.C.’s Small Business Month.

A report from October 2013 by the B.C. Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training indicated that an impressive 98% of businesses in B.C. are small business and that small businesses account for 55% of all employment in the province. 26% of B.C.’s GDP is generated from small businesses alone. Small Business Month is intended to celebrate and recognize the contribution of small businesses to the B.C. economy and the local communities.

“The small business sector in B.C. is a huge, but often underserviced, market.  Many small business owners avoid seeking professional advice, either because they’re intimidated by the prospect or because they can’t afford it,” says Dana Gordon, owner and senior counsel at Benchmark Law.  “Though our Advice-a-thons, I want small business owners to know that they do have options.”

In addition to Benchmark Law, some of the participants that will be available for consultations include RBC Small Business Advisors, Adwiz Communications, and It’s Your Time Business Services.
