Just Between Friends of Douglas County Setting Up a “Safe Zone” - at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The Sheriff's Office Will Also Patrol the Area

Douglas County, CO – To help promote safety among online buy/sell/trade groups, Just Between Friends of Douglas County is setting up a safe zone at its spring consignment event this week, April 9 – 12 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Following the horrific Craig’s List crime in Longmont last month, JBF Organizer Deborah Freeman wanted to help families buy and sell more safely.  She reached out to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to get information on setting up a safe zone.

Currently there are more than 60 “Buy Sell Trade” groups on Facebook in the Douglas County area alone with about 100,000 members communicating to buy and sell gently used items. In addition, many people also buy and sell on Craig’s List.  Anyone buying and selling through these groups can meet in the lobby of the Fairground’s Event Center during their public hours.  The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is also asking its patrol to have a presence during the event by driving by throughout the event.

JBF Schedule

Thursday, April 9:    9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Friday, April 10:        9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 11:   9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday, April 12:      9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Place:  Douglas County Fairgrounds Event Center, 500 Fairgrounds Drive, Castle Rock 80104

JBF is also partnering with Graco and offering a special buy back program for Alano, Passage or Spree strollers and/or travel systems that were recalled in 2010.  JBF discovered many parents still had these strollers and were unaware of the recall or potential danger.  Graco recalled the models due to fingertip amputation and lacerations hazards.  Click here for details

This is a common problem.  A study by Kids in Danger found that only 10 percent of recalled children’s items are repaired or returned. Read the study here:

Families can bring the recalled strollers to the Douglas County Event April 9 – 12 and in exchange they will receive a $25.00 gift card to shop at the JBF event.   JBF will return the stroller to Graco and it will be destroyed.

Just Between Friends is North America’s leading children’s consignment event with more than 140 events in the US and Canada – each run by local families.  In Douglas County, Deborah Freeman organizes the event.  Local families sign up as consignors to sell the new and gently used children’s and maternity items their families have outgrown. They prep their own items, price and tag them and can earn up to 70%. Other families will shop and can typically save between 50 and 90%.  JBF also gives back, donating to Birthline, Inc. Deborah is available to talk about the safe zone, the buy back and the event in general.

About Just Between Friends

In 1997, Just Between Friends was created in a living room in Tulsa, Oklahoma when Shannon Wilburn, a mother of two young children, and her friend Daven Tackett hosted a sale with 17 friends as consignors and had gross sales of $2000.  In 2014, that same sale hosted two events and grossed close to 1 million.  The sales caught on with families and grew, so in 2003, they formed Just Between Friends Franchise Systems, Inc.  Wilburn is now sole owner and CEO of Just Between Friends Franchise Systems, Inc., which has over 140 franchises in 28 states and one in Canada.  They expect to top 27 million in 2015.
