Hattie’s Café & Gifts Bakery hosts a grand opening at its new Canal Place location, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wed., Oct. 29. Stop by for door prizes and samples of house-made seasonal treats.
The bakery moved into the Hattie’s Café & Gifts Deli, located at 520 S. Main St., 1st Floor Suite 2415 in Akron, Ohio. The new location is only 0.6 miles south from its previous Main Street location.
“We are excited to expand our bakery offerings in such a great area,” said Dotty Grexa, Hattie Larlham vice president of vocational and enterprise services. “Our business caters more to the office environment and with all the growth around Canal Place, we think this is a perfect location to grow.”
Hattie’s Café & Gifts Bakery is a Hattie Larlham work training program for adults with developmental disabilities. The bakery prepares the fresh baked cookies, brownies and muffins for all of the Hattie’s Café & Gifts locations. Employees prepare boxed lunches for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Hattie’s Café & Gifts Bakery also fulfills gift basket orders. Hattie’s Cafe & Gifts Bakery has been opened since Sept. 2010.
Hattie Larlham’s work training programs employ more than 200 adults with developmental disabilities. The programs provide on-the-job training and prepare participants to maintain a job in the general workforce. Work training programs include Hattie’s Gardens, Hattie’s Doggie Day Care & Boarding, Hattie’s Vending and Hattie’s Assembly. Employees with developmental disabilities earn a minimum wage.
Several Hattie Larlham businesses have Canal Place offices, including the vocational offices, Hattie’s Assembly and two Hattie’s Café & Gifts locations.
