Aisle50 and Big Y bring Grocery Subscriptions to New England

Big Y Empowers Consumers to Subscribe to the Products they use most at Discounts of 15% to 40%

SPRINGFIELD, MA (Oct. 2, 2014) – Shopping for the best brands just became a little easier—and cheaper—for consumers in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Aisle50, the innovative online technology platform that delivers Amazon-style subscriptions to consumers at brick-and-mortar stores, has teamed up with Big Y to offer Aisle50’s exclusive subscriptions to customers of that grocery chain’s 60 locations. The move further expands Big Y’s portfolio of digital content on its revamped website. The move with Aisle50 also gives Big Y an answer to the encroachment of big box retailers and Amazon in the grocery space.

“We have consumers that demand a lot out of their retailers, and partnering with Aisle50 keeps our offerings a step ahead of competitors and will further enrich the shopping experience at Big Y,” says John Schnepp, Director of Advertising at Big Y.

Now working with manufacturers such as Procter & Gamble, Kraft, Unilever, Starbucks, Pepsico, Nestle, Kellogg’s, General Mills and Clorox, Aisle50 allows customers to subscribe to their favorite products at a discount. Fulfillment takes place at normal grocery stores, where subscription items are fully discounted at checkout when shoppers use their loyalty card or account.

“The subscription is the most powerful tool in e-commerce and consumers have shown a healthy appetite for putting more of their life—like grocery shopping—on auto-pilot,” said Christopher Steiner, co-founder of Aisle50. “This allows consumers in tech-savvy New England to do just that.”

Aisle50 was founded by Steiner and Riley Scott with the goal of sourcing exclusive content in the world of consumer packaged goods, a $2 trillion business in the United States. With capital raised from Silicon Valley’s Y Combinator, August Capital, Origin Ventures, New World Ventures and others, Steiner and Scott have built Aisle50 into a marketing lever that, for CPGs, drives incremental volume and repeat buying. For retailers, Aisle50 drives thousands of new trips, 31% bigger basket sizes with consumer discounts that are 100% funded by CPGs.
