TAMPA - May 27, 2016 - Four weeks since launching a campaign to build a community philanthropy food truck, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Davin Joseph is hoping this big dream becomes reality. His non-profit organization, Davin’s Dream Team along with local business supporters invested in an evolution in fundraising, to build a social enterprise that perpetually funds their non-profit initiatives. Their fight hunger food truck is called “Burger Champ” and will serve gourmet burgers of goodness at favorite Tampa events with 100% of proceeds going to help fight childhood hunger. The hope is to raise the final, now $7,400, needed to put this fight hunger food truck on the roads of Tampa in 2016.
"Burger Champ was inspired as a way for all of us to champion the fight against hunger together. No one can do this by themselves." Joseph said. The goal was to raise $35k in total which cover all costs needed to launch and operate this food truck the first year, then the program is self-sustaining providing permanent funding for the organization’s Title I student athlete meals initiative. They have provided more than 15,000 meals and snacks to under-served students to date. The monies raised will cover all the costs to fabricate, insure, certify, wrap and build out this long-term gourmet burger truck of goodness. The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay has agreed to provide a $10,000 match grant if they hit their goal, so that meant they needed to raise $25k.
Following the technological challenges during Give Day Tampa Bay on May 3, 2016, Davin’s Dream Team were shy of reaching that goal. With the help of supporting partners, Florida Blue and Elder Ford of Tampa funding efforts continued and now they are only $7,500 away from hitting the goal and putting this truck on the road this year!
"We’ve been hard at work on this for the past several months and now we’re in the final weeks to make it possible." Angel Williams, Executive Director of Davin's Dream Team continued, "We need the whole community to join together and donate to roll out this food truck with us." One hundred percent of funds raised will go directly to providing meals to the under-served, hard-working student athletes in five Titles I schools. The organization is in the final stages of a crowd funding effort to cross the finish line and now at madepossibleby.us/burger champ
The Burger Champ truck sales will support Davin’s Dream Team program to provide nutritional meals to student athletes in Title I schools around the Tampa Bay area.
The Burger Champ philanthropy food truck is the next step in expanding their meals program from five Title I high schools to 10 throughout Florida. Since beginning the program in 2011, Davin’s Dream Team has delivered more than 15,000 nutritious pregame meals and snacks to high school student athletes.
