Celebrated Web Series “SPLIT” Earns Award Nominations at LA WebFest Again This Year

LOS ANGELES (March 31, 2015) – The second season of the award-winning web series SPLIT, has earned an ‘Official Selection’ nod and 3 performance nominations at LA WebFest 2015. Created by Rebecca Norris, this soapy drama-thriller cross-over, will also screen in July as an ‘Official Selection’ at KO WebFest 2015, Northeast Asia’s first ever web series festival.

SPLIT follows the adventures of Dana Lafferty (Lisa Roumain), a devoted mom and housewife who gets blindsided when she discovers her husband has been leading a double life. From a bitter divorce to the crosshairs of the “other woman,” Dana must pick up the pieces of her shattered life and figure out a way to defeat her enemies before it's too late.

Norris and co-writer/co-producer Gabrielle Glenn have received high praise from fans, critics and the industry for the series. The first six-episode season won ‘Outstanding Original Score’ at LA WebFest 2014, earned a nomination for ‘Best Actress’ (Lisa Roumain) at Indie Series Awards 2014 and was named Quarter-Finalist at NexTV Web Series Competition 2013.

SPLIT has been hailed as, "A show filled with plenty of drama that will keep viewers hooked," by Snobby Robot; and WebVee Guide confirmed, "Soap opera, thriller, suspense, even a touch of comedy - this show has them all."

Norris is thrilled by the continued support for what she refers to as ‘the little web series that could’, explaining “We had a very low budget so much of it was DIY. Everyone wore multiple hats. We shot the two seasons (10 episodes) in just 4.5 days, with a couple of additional scenes filmed over another day of shooting later. I’m incredibly proud how we were able to put together an award-winning series on a shoestring.”

Under her Freebird Entertainment banner (, Norris has created several other successful projects. Her short film, ON BECOMING A MAN, was distributed by Synergy TV and earned selection nods from Cannes and 12 other film festivals; winning ‘Best Comedy Short’ at IFS Film Fest and ‘Best Short Film’ at the Athens Jewish Film Fest. Her short, TOASTED, won ‘Audience Choice’ at Toronto’s ShortsNonStop Festival and was a finalist at Dances With Films Festival’s 2-Step Screenplay Competition, where the film was produced with sponsorship from Canon and Adobe. Her work has found distribution on television, DVD, online platforms, and has aired on PBS. Currently, Norris is developing Season Three of SPLIT and is in post-production on her first feature film, CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SUNSHINE.

Hoping to encourage other writers to jumpstart their careers by creating their own work, Norris pens the column “Writers on the Web” for Script Magazine ( In addition, she speaks on panels at festivals, industry events and conferences, teaches classes and is currently writing the book, MAKE A WEB SERIES OR SHORT FILM FOR LESS THAN YOU SPEND ON COFFEE.

Norris comments, “I truly believe the key to success in entertainment in this day and age is to create your own work. Gone are the days of waiting for the phone to ring! You have to create your own opportunities. You open your own doors.”
