BEDFORD, Mass. (July 26, 2016) -- Thermacell Repellents, Inc., a leading manufacturer of area mosquito repellent products, has received approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizing Thermacell products as an effective repellent for mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus. Thermacell has been certified to repel the Aedes mosquito, which in addition to Zika, transmits a number of diseases including West Nile Virus, Dengue, Chikungunya, Yellow Fever and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) Virus.
Thermacell Repellents use a patented technology to create a 15 x 15 ft Zone of Protection™ from mosquitoes and other flying insects. The Thermacell no-spray technology creates a Protection Zone by heating and dispersing repellent into the air. The repellent, allethrin, is a copy of a natural repellent found in chrysanthemum flowers, and is an effective alternative to DEET, which can ruin gear and irritate human skin. Silent and odor free, Thermacell provides continuous protection for up to 4 hours for standard refills and up to 12 hours for Max Life™ refills. The entire Thermacell line of repellent products is registered with the EPA and can be used around children and pets.
“We are proud that Thermacell has passed the EPA’s strict efficacy requirements for public health claims", said Allegra Wechsler Lowitt, chief marketing officer of Thermacell. “And we are pleased to provide a no-spray solution that helps people enjoy the outdoors this summer and fall without being worried about mosquitoes or the diseases they may carry.”
The Thermacell family includes multiple solutions that are perfect for a variety of outdoor pursuits. The product line ranges from portable repellers, repellent lanterns, and repellent torches to a multitude of accessory items that make the outdoors safer and more enjoyable.
