The Wednesday Farmer’s Market in Riverton is in its fifth season this summer! The Market started in mid-May and runs through the Sept 28 and is graciously hosted by St John Lutheran Church on Wednesdays at 606 No 8th West between 5 p.m. and 7p.m.
Currently each week, we have around 30 vendor producers selling. That number grows each week as more fresh garden produce becomes available. We are averaging 350 customers each week, which will also increase as produce increases!
Customers can expect to find fresh raw milk, from both cows and goats. A variety of milk products, including fresh and aged cheeses, ice cream, butter, cream, sherbet, ricotta and cottage cheese are often available. We also have grass-fed beef and Navaho Churro lamb ( ground, steaks and roasts), as well as free-range chickens from 3 to 6 lbs and fresh farm eggs, chicken and duck.
A number of talented local bakers provide a wide and varying range of made-from-scratch goods. Fresh baked loaves include sandwich and bread bowls, some stuffed with savory fillings. Rolls, bagels, and pretzels are also common. Sweet treats include muffins, fruit turnovers, cookies in all sizes and varieties, cakes, fruit breads, mini gourmet cupcakes, pies, and fruit cream cheese Danish braids. Several bakers are also offering gluten-free baked goods.
Gardeners and truck farmers provide a wide range of fresh, flavor packed produce, starting with early rhubarb, kale, lettuce, and spinach and ending in October with storage squash, pumpkins, onions, Brussels sprouts and potatoes. In between, quantities of tomatoes, beans, squashes, root vegetables, cabbage, cucumbers, and peppers abound. Shoppers may even find artichokes, okra, fresh herbs, celery, and mushrooms. Fruits include local strawberries, raspberries, and apples, as well as Flathead cherries and Colorado peaches this year. Growers are extending the seasons with hoop houses to provide produce even in May and late September!
Value added products include fresh salsa, guacamole, pickles, relishes, fruit jellies and jams, frozen chicken casseroles, soups and more.
We also welcome a number of fine craftspeople to our market with products ranging from wind chimes to recycled tote bags, jewelry to children’s wear. Find that special Wyoming gift, as you support local artists.
The Riverton Wednesday Market includes special activities like live music, display baby farm animals, live chickens and rabbits for sale, food preparation demonstrations, craft projects for kids, balloon animals, and more. Be sure to check our Facebook page for scheduled special events and spotlighted products.
Local markets provide consumers the freshest possible products and the opportunity to meet and learn to know exactly who grows or makes their food. Many of our farmers welcome visitors to their farms to actually see where their food comes from! Buying locally strengthens our community by building bonds between people, by providing fresh, healthy foods, by reducing the amount of fuel necessary to transport it, and by keeping more of each dollar spent in our local economy. Buying locally is a win-win for all of us
The Lander’s Farmers Market will be every Saturday, June 18th through October 15, 9 a.m. to noon at City Park and Tuesdays at Centennial Park on Main Street from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.! On Saturdays you can enjoy live music while you shop for the freshest produce local growers have to offer. Go check out the fresh garden produce, salsas, baked goods, meats, a variety of goat cheeses, jellies, jams, and local brews! For best access, enter City Park Drive and enter the gravel parking lot between the two baseball fields.
