Fall for Family-Friendly Hiking and Biking in Glenwood Springs

It’s not just Glenwood Springs’ top attractions – Glenwood Hot Springs and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park – that rate top billing with families, the majority of the area’s hiking and biking trails are easily walkable and ridable for the average family. As summer transitions to fall, the cooler weather is ideal for exploring.

Try these paved family-friendly biking trails:

Glenwood Canyon Recreation Trail. The trail follows the Colorado River and is interspersed with rest areas. Ride the entire length of Glenwood Canyon or park at one of the rest areas to ride a smaller portion of the trail.

Rio Grande Trail. This trail travels along the Roaring Fork River and will take you all the way to Aspen. Keep kids happy though by riding just a section of the trail.

Try these kid-approved hiking trails:

Grizzly Creek Trail. A beautiful hike that’s not nearly as crowded as Hanging Lake Trail. Bring a picnic to enjoy a creekside alfresco lunch.

Jeanne Golay/Red Mountain Trail.  Hike up the road (which is closed to all but local motorized traffic) or take the steeper single track trail. This hike offers spectacular views of Glenwood Springs.

Doc Holliday Trail. Hike the short trail to Linwood Cemetery to visit the famous gunslinger’s grave marker. The historic cemetery is the resting place of many of Glenwood’s earliest residents.
