hk+np studio introduces Spiral Series “the spirit of the architect” for fall/winter 2014

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, October 9, 2014 – One of the most beautiful forms in nature creating patterns found in shells, flowers, and leaves, hk+np studio has launched their fall/winter 2014 season with the Spiral Series: “the spirit of the architect.”

Conceived while visiting Antonio Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Neil Prakash and Hiroko Kobayashi were inspired by the beautiful spiral stone stairs that inhabit each of the 18 spires. Considered to be the most extraordinary personal interpretation of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages, the masterpiece will finish construction in 2026, 100 years after the architect’s death and 144 years after it was started.

The spiral staircase is something that architects Neil and Hiroko are familiar with from working on various architecture projects at the firm that they work for. To start with, the couple drew sketches to help them understand the implications of the design in jewelry. Following that, a computer model and then plastic model were made before finalizing their design and having it casted in silver.

The first pieces to be released for the Spiral Series are a pendant and earrings in sterling silver in a mirror and matte finish. The pendant is priced at $240 and $280 for the earrings.
