“Weaving for a Brighter Future” - A new collection of hand woven carpets designed by New York Fashion designer Norma Kamali for FBMI, the Fatema bint Mohammed Initiative.
Following the success of the ‘Empowerment Carpets’ exhibit on Manarat Al Sadiyat in May, Norma Kamali's carpet collection for FBMI will now be on display at Al Maryah Island until October 31st 2014. The 12-carpet collection has received great reviews; a range of black and white resolutely contemporary carpets hand woven in the Afghan traditional way. With the collection nearly sold out, there is still a chance to purchase these socially-conscious unique  carpets by Award Winning New York designer Norma Kamali.

"Weaving for a Brighter Future" carpets collection is in spirit of continuity of FBMI & Norma Kamali's target: empowering Afghan women.

About Norma Kamali
Norma Kamali is an internationally recognised designer who is lauded for a timeless and innovative approach to fashion. Norma's entire career has been a platform for her life goal which is to help, enhance and empower women. It is this passion that has inspired the collection and the collaboration for Afghan women.

About FBMI
Launched in 2010, FBMI is a unique enterprise that takes a comprehensive approach to development leveraging both private entrepreneurship and sustainable social services. It offers women employment in the weaving industry, while also providing them critical social services including training, healthcare and education.
FBMI is Her Highness Sheikha Fatema Bint Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan humanitarian initiative.
The carpets produced through FBMI employs traditional crafting methods, operating strictly within Afghanistan. Wool from Afghan farmers, natural vegetables dyes and, of course, a local workforce (over 4,000 workers to date) are all pillars of the FBMI program.  
The organization currently has three showrooms: in Kabul, London and Dubai on Jumeirah Beach Rd open to professionals as well as local consumers.
