SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (June 29, 2016) — Tepui Tents, a leading innovator of rooftop tents and shelters, introduces its first hard-shell tent, the White Lightning, a first-to-market rooftop tent with an integrated roof rack system. Tepui Tents has specialized in rooftop tents since 2010, focusing on rugged two, three and four-person tents with fabric canopies. White Lightning expands Tepui’s product offerings, making it the largest in the rooftop tent category.
White Lightning will be available via a Kickstarter campaign that will launch the new tent. Backers of the Kickstarter will have the chance to be the first to pre-order White Lightning, with scheduled delivery for Fall 2016.
“Our customers have been asking us to build a hard shell tent,” said Evan Currid, founder of Tepui Tents. “Our Kickstarter campaign enables them to take an active role in bringing White Lightning to fruition, and we’re excited to engage with them on a new platform like Kickstarter.”
White Lightning is a two-person tent designed to mount to any roof rack system. It opens in seconds to create a raised, level and comfortable sleeping surface with a 2.5” foam mattress. The tent is 100 percent made in the USA, with high strength aluminum hinges and a fiberglass sandwich construction for a high strength-to-weight ratio. When closed, White Lightning has a low profile at only 8 inches high.
“The rooftop tent category is experiencing rapid growth right now. Every day, you see more and more rooftop tents on the road, at trailheads and campsites,” said Currid. “White Lightning is our most ambitious project to date and introduces new materials and functionality for which the rooftop tent market is hungry.”
Since 2010, Tepui has been at the forefront of innovation in the rooftop tent space. In 2013, the brand launched the category’s first ‘Ruggedized’ tent, designed to meet the harshest weather conditions. In 2014, Tepui launched its first ‘Sky’ tents with open or mesh ceilings. White Lightning introduces Tepui’s latest innovation; it’s the first hard shell tent to be ‘Rack Ready.’ It has integrated bars that allow users to leave their bike, kayak, SUP board or other racks on the tent while it is opened. The bars have a capacity of 150 pounds.
