"Introduction to Telomeres, Nutrigenomics, and Epigenetics" by Filiz Bakir, AP, DOM at Church of Perpetual Life 8/27

Telomeres are sections of genetic material at the end of each chromosome whose primary function is to prevent chromosomal “fraying” when a cell divides (replicates). As a cell ages, its telomeres become shorter. Eventually, the telomeres become too short to allow cell replication, the cell stops dividing and will ultimately die. Cells can maintain the length of their telomeres with an enzyme called telomerase, which ultimately prolongs the life of the cell.

Symptoms of extreme aging may be partially reversed by increasing levels of telomerase.

How Can We Improve Telemerase?

1- Bypassing Genetic Mutations in Our Methylation Pathways

2- Testing and Repletion of Cellular Nutritional Deficiencies

3- Improving Cardio-Vascular Risk Factors

4- Optimizing Thyroid, Adrenal and Reproductive Hormones

Feliz Bakir, certified Acupuncture Physician, Doctor of Oriental Medicine will give a presentation on telomeres as an underlying mechanism of aging, nutrigenomics, epigenetics -- and what can be done to combat aging.

The fellowship that follows in the social hall will give you a chance to discuss issues and stories of your own directly with the speakers and with other individuals with similar interests.

LIVE Video Broadcast begins at 7:00 PM EST.

This event is sponsored by The Church of Perpetual Life. It is FREE and open to the public.

About Filiz Bakir, AP, DOM (Acupuncture Physician, Doctor of Oriental Medicine):

Founder and Medical director of Thrive Wellness Center, Filiz Bakir, brings deep passion to her work. Having discovered the profound healing abilities of Traditional Chinese and Energy Medicine through her own illness, she is a dedicated physician that leaves no stone unturned to restore her patients’ health and vitality.

Filiz discovered Chinese Medicine in the mid 90’s after having spent 6 month in the bone marrow unit of Georgetown Medical Center in Washington DC where her brother was being treated for late stage acute leukemia. This period proved to be life altering for Filiz as she not only got a very intimate look at the Western medical paradigm but also learnt a lot about the mechanism of disease. She hardly slept for the entire period and dedicated herself to studying, exploring and researching not only her brother’s condition but also the factors that make one person survive and the other die. At the end of her brother’s treatment Filiz returned back to Florida and noticed that she was not feeling well at all. ( She knows today that she was suffering from Adrenal burnout) She experienced fatigue, frequent panic attacks, multiple chemical and nutritional sensitivities, insomnia and more. Going from one doctor to the other she soon found out that the only thing Western medicine could offer were antidepressants. No one even had time to listen to her!

Through a serendipitous “coincidence” she found herself at an acupuncturist’s office. She was amazed how much time the acupuncturist spent listening to her, examining her tongue and pulse, writing down every detail about her condition. She experienced acupuncture for the first time and was given an herbal formula. Amazed that even one treatment made such a difference she continued her treatments and began exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine. She soon discovered amazing teachers in the field of Energy medicine, the medicine that is based on the bio-electic or energy system of the body. She studied with world renowned teachers like Carolyne Myss and Donna Eden and became a Certified Energy Medicine Practitioner. The decision to become a Doctor of Oriental Medicine soon followed.

Later, while training at the Hippocrates Health Institute, she discovered Nutripuncture, a needleless modality that like acupuncture not only resolves irregularities in the Energy Systems of the body but can actually correct cellular imprints that lead to physical and emotional dis-ease. Her practice today incorporates many modalities, including clinical nutrition and advanced laboratory testing to understand a patient’s condition fully and enable her to design treatment protocols to restore the patient’s quality of life so they can live the joyful life we all deserve. By the way, Filiz’ a brother is alive and well and living in Alexandria, Va. His illness in many ways was a gift that brought healing to the whole family.
