Vermont Card Company & Stephen Huneck Gallery

Underhill, VT (January 15, 2014) — The Vermont Card Company is pleased to announce the launch of its fourth signature line of paper goods, the Stephen Huneck Collection.

Colorful, fun and soulful, the Stephen Huneck Collection celebrates the late artist’s humorous and insightful portrayals of our pet companions.  The Collection features 28 styles of Greeting Cards and 28 styles of Tag-i-bles, an adhesive notecard available exclusively from the Vermont Card Company.

An American wood carver, painter, and New York Times bestselling author, Huneck is perhaps most famous for taking up residence in the northeast corner of Vermont to create a world in which man’s best friend was top dog. Working from a studio attached to his home, Huneck created art ranging from Black Angels and fine furniture to bathing beauties and many beloved images of Sally, his black Labrador Retriever. Resonating with art and animal lovers alike, Huneck’s work is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute and in private collections worldwide.

"The Stephen Huneck Gallery has teamed up with the Vermont Card Company to create a product line that honors Stephen’s joyful genius," said Jon Ide, director of the Stephen Huneck Gallery.  "We are excited to enter into this new partnership and we couldn't be happier with these great new cards."

"We are fans and admirers of Stephen Huneck's work," said Eileen Foster, co-owner of the Vermont Card Company.  "It has been a privilege to work with the Stephen Huneck Gallery and it has given us a greater appreciation for the accomplishments of Stephen and his wife, Gwen."

In keeping with the spirit of Huneck's work, the 5" x 7" greeted cards in the Collection offer fun (or, pun) messages suited to the cover image—the results of this pairing are both charming and witty. For Huneck's image of a crab that has firmly taken hold of a dog's nose, the greeting "Crabé Diem" encourages the card recipient to make the most of his or her Birthday.  Another card features a tug-of-war between Man and Dog over a sock with the accompanying message, "Here’s to getting EVERYTHING you want for your birthday!"

All greeting card designs are oriented on a vertical fold to showcase the master craftsmanship of Huneck’s original woodcuts.  Several cards in the Collection have images that wrap-around the spine to the back of the card, the effect is bold and unique. The cards have the feeling of being generously over-sized.

Vermont Card Company Co-owner Nicki Feldman stated that the Stephen Huneck Collection is being simultaneously launched with a new product offering. "We are very excited to introduce Tag-i-bles," said Feldman.  "We believe that paper goods are one of Life’s little pleasures. Tag-i-bles truly embody that sentiment.”

Offered in quantities of 10 per box, Tag-i-bles are an adhesive note card printed on an artisan quality 100lb recycled paper. Each 3” x 3” tent-folded Tag-i-ble features an adhesive with peel-off backing for affixing to gifts, lunch boxes, memos, table settings, and more.

With the tagline “peel · press · present," Feldman explained that Tag-i-bles can be used as a "Thank you" note adhered to a plate returned to a thoughtful neighbor, as pretty reminders on a personal calendar, or as a play-date invite on a friend’s windshield in the school parking lot.  “For fans of paper goods, there are just so many uses for Tag-i-bles that you’ll want to always have some on hand,” said Feldman.

Felman noted that with several images featured in the Stephen Huneck Collection the actual grain of the original woodcut is visible on the greeting cards and Tag-i-bles.  Feldman said the results are stunning and those particular designs are very special.

The Stephen Huneck Collection, like the Vermont Card Company's other product offerings, are printed on Forest Stewardship Council certified recycled paper produced in a Green-E certified facility.

The Vermont Card Company offers 78 styles of Tag-i-bles and 130 styles of Greeting Cards across four distinct collections: Color Block Collection, Carol Sullivan Collection, Boutique Chic Collection and the newly launched Stephen Huneck Collection.  From bold and colorful to simplified and refined, there is a greeting card and Tag-i-ble to suit every taste and occasion.
