HOUSTON, TEXAS – October 15, 2014 – LWC Concepts announces the closing of its Onaga Pan Asian Bistro at 2946 S. Shepherd Drive, Houston, Texas 77098, and introduces a test kitchen with the opening of Maiko Bar & Bistro in the same location on October 27, 2014. Under new management and a new chef rethinking and localizing Asian food and how it’s made, Maiko Bar & Bistro offers contemporary Third Coast Asian cuisine, which takes into account Houston’s unique amalgamation of Asian cultures, adapting to Southern style.
Once perfected in this local test kitchen, new menu items will roll out to Maiko Austin and future Maiko locations.
“Under the direction of our Corporate Chef Jeff Smith, Maiko Bar & Bistro features a very focused, seasonal menu--quite different from a typical Asian restaurant,” says Larina Chen, co-owner of LWC Concepts. “Chef Jeff incorporates locally-sourced ingredients when possible, and sauces and dressings made from scratch in-house, along with uniquely blended craft cocktails, all made fresh-to-order.”
As a result of breaking down traditional culinary dishes and reinventing them through a passion for new styles of cooking, healthier options, and local food, Chef Jeff prefers local vendors. Specialties include Truffle Duck Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Grass-Fed Beef & Chips and Coconut Yam Purée, with specials available a few nights each week. During its opening week, Maiko Bar & Bistro will introduce select appetizers, entrées and sushi as part of a different tasting menu each night.
The full-service bar specializes in hand-crafted cocktails made with premium liquors and fresh-squeezed in-house ingredients. Signature drinks include the “Red Tuna,” a prickly pear margarita made with fresh lime juice, local Texan tequila and Cointreau, and the “Jungle Samurai,” Maiko’s version of a Budo Fizz, made with egg whites, fresh pineapple and lime juice, house-made simple syrup, Pisco Porton and Campari. Sake concoctions and local beers and wines are also available. Weekly happy hour specials feature a unique menu of libations and bar bites.
Open daily, Maiko Bar & Bistro offers seated, full-service restaurant and bar dining, and is available for private events.
