The ethane gas terminal planned for Grangemouth will enable Ineos' petrochemicals complex at the site to compete over the longer term. Grangemouth will be a shale gas-based facility by 2016. In May 2014, Ineos secured planning permission to build a GBP125mn (USD210mn) ethane storage tank at Grangemouth that will allow the company to import US shale gas that will feed the company's 700,0000tpa nameplate capacity gas cracker.
