ERIE, P.A. – The Erie Ford Dealers recently handed the keys to a brand new 2015 Ford Transit to the Erie City Mission at the Erie Auto Show. The local nonprofit organization was selected from seven finalists as part of the Erie Ford Friendship Express program.
Brought to the area in 2012, the Ford Friendship Express program provides a vehicle to one local nonprofit group annually. Charities that apply demonstrate their need for improved transportation by sharing their stories and explaining how being a recipient will impact their organization.
The Erie City Mission received its new vehicle during a key presentation at the beginning of the 2015 Erie Auto Show. The organization will use its new Ford vehicle to improve food pickup and delivery services that operate seven days a week.
“The Ford Friendship Express Program provides the gift of transportation to the people and organizations that need it most,” said Mark Winkler, Erie Ford Friendship Express representative. “We chose the Erie City Mission because it provides critical services to those in-need in Erie. We’re proud to give back to an organization that is so dedicated to serving the local community.”
The Erie City Mission offers shelter, food, clothing, rehabilitation and after school programs, among other services, for those in-need in the Erie community. These efforts lead to permanent change and independent living for many of Erie’s men, women and children.
“Our food pickup and delivery program provides a vital service to men and women that visit the mission,” said Pastor Rick Crocker, Erie City Mission’s executive director. “Last year, we prepared and served over 150,000 meals. Thanks to the Erie Ford Dealers, we now have reliable transportation to carry out our food pickup and delivery for the people who rely on this service every day.”
To be considered for the 2015 Ford Friendship Express program, Pennsylvania nonprofits in Erie, Crawford or Warren counties applied online at www.pennford.com before January 2. Members of the Erie Ford Friendship Express Selection Committee reviewed all applications and determined which organization showed the most need and met all program guidelines. Organizations can apply for the 2016 program by visiting the website this fall.
