Vancouver's Karice Enterprises Ltd. Brings Home Gold
Tuesday, July 26, 2016 — Vancouver, BC. On July 23rd in Los Angeles, winners of the 9th Annual International Design Awards were announced. Vancouver's own lighting designer/manufacturer, Karice Enterprises Ltd. was awarded Gold in the Illumination Competition for their Electron Wall Sconce.
Born of simplicity and masking a highly innovative creation below the surface, the Electron Wall Sconce's irreducibly complex engineering hides all fasteners and wiring, and maintains the ring’s suspended independence without compromising beauty or functionality. Using dimmable energy-efficient LED technology, it illuminates from its inner and outer edges without shadowing. This minimalist luminaire represents the circular path of an electron around the nucleus of an atom.
It's been an exciting year for the Electron. Earlier this year Karice's Electron made the shortlist amid thousands of entries at the international Lighting Design Awards in the UK and in April was awarded the 2016 Silver A'Design Award in Milan, Italy. The father-son design team are thrilled to be representing Canadian design on a global stage.
"We were fascinated with the idea of using acrylic as a diffuser in a simple illuminated metal shape."

A handful of designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs created the International Design Awards in 2007 as a response to the lack of recognition and celebration for smart and sustainable multidisciplinary design. The International Design Awards (IDA) exists to recognize, celebrate and promote legendary design visionaries and to uncover emerging talent in Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic, and Fashion Design. IDA aspires to draw attention to the iconoclasm of design world wide, conceptualizing and producing great work.
