(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College’s Science and Technology Division will host student poster sessions on Tuesday, May 6 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Science and Technology Building on main campus.
Scientific posters are the most common method used to share professional research findings. At BC3, students design an experiment based upon course content and principles of the scientific method. After completing the project, students produce a scientific poster that presents their findings to classmates and the college community.
Scientific poster subjects include Microbiology; Anatomy and Physiology; Modern Instrumental Methods in Chemical Analysis; Organic Chemistry; and Metrology.
“Often the research questions being addressed would typically be investigated in junior and senior level courses,” said Matt Kovac, Dean of the Science and Technology Division at BC3. “At BC3, the combination of small class sizes and commitment by the College to provide the necessary instrumentation gives our students an opportunity that many freshman and sophomore students lack.”
Presenting a scientific poster gives students the opportunity to put science in action and improve their communication skills. Some BC3 students have had their research published and some have received awards at poster sessions at 4-year universities.
Student poster sessions are open to the college community and the public.
