Streetsense of Bethesda, MD, the exclusive retail leasing broker for the new mixed-use Halstead Square development adjacent to the Dunn Loring Metro station in Merrifield, VA, has leased 4,200 square feet to Lost Dog Café. The new restaurant will enjoy a prominent location at the corner of Merilee Drive and Halstead Square. Streetsense’s Kelly Silverman represented the developer, The DSF Group of Boston, MA, in the lease transaction.
This is the second retail lease that Streetsense has inked within Halstead Square. Just last month, Streetsense finalized a 9,000 SF lease with BlackFinn American Grill.
“Together with BlackFinn, Lost Dog will provide new and exciting dining options for the thousands of people living within walking distance of the Dunn Loring Metro station,” said Jeff Pollak, Managing Principal of Streetsense.
Founded by Ross Underwood and Pam McAlwee in 1985, The Lost Dog Café now serves up great pizza, hot sandwiches, and beer from around the world in three northern Virginia locations – two in Arlington and one in McLean – as well as The Stray Cat Café in Arlington. Thanks to their restaurants’ success, they operate the non-profit Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, which places almost 2,000 animals per year into permanent, loving homes.
Halstead Square is a new mixed-use development located just steps from the Dunn Loring Metro station, which serves 2.8 million passengers per year, and just north of Lee Highway (Route 29). When completed, Halstead Square will have 854 luxury apartment units, a 150-room Kimpton Hotel, and 50,000 square feet of retail space. The first building of the multi-phase project, The Rockwell at Halstead Square, which will house the BlackFinn restaurant, is now open and consists of 242 apartments, 10,500 square feet of amenity space, and 27,000 square feet of retail space. Two additional apartment buildings are now under construction. Halstead Square’s developer, The DSF Group of Boston, MA, concentrates on value-added opportunities in the traditionally high-growth markets of the Northeast Corridor.
