Ben Franklin Today Celebrates Founding Father’s 308th Birthday This Friday, January 17th

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – January 15, 2014 – This Friday, January 17th, is the 308th birthday of Philadelphia’s favorite son and famous Founding Father, and Ben Franklin Today (as portrayed by actor and entrepreneur Rob DeVitis) will be out on the town celebrating.

Ben Franklin Today will be making a special guest appearance on Friday, January 17th at the Sugar House Casino, as part of their “Win Ben’s Bucks” celebration of Ben Franklin’s Birthday, from 12 Noon to 10 p.m.  Ben Franklin Today will be available for photos and conversations with those well-wishers in attendance at his birthday party from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

“Even though everyone thinks I will be 308 years old on Friday, when people meet me today, they realize I’m very much alive and kicking,” said Franklin (or is it DeVitis?).  “I’m happy to celebrate my birthday, but I hope everyone knows I’m still here, better than ever!”

Historically, Friday is Ben Franklin’s 308th birthday.  Born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Franklin moved to Philadelphia in his youth, and quickly became Philadelphia’s favorite son, a scientist, statesman, and entrepreneur, Franklin was a true renaissance man and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.

Ben Franklin Today has earned accolades for his appearances at a number of high-profile public and private events since he first took up the role in October 2011. 

During the holiday season, Ben Franklin Today was very active at local charitable events in Philadelphia.  He helped Ronald McDonald and other guests light the holiday lights at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House’s annual holiday event on Wednesday, December 4th, and joined the Phillie Phanatic at the ALS Foundation Holiday Party in Valley Forge on Saturday, December 14th.

Ben Franklin Today is a Preferred Vendor of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, which enables him to provide additional resources to conventions, groups, and meetings planning to hold events in the Philadelphia area.

Ben Franklin Today can be invited (for a modest fee) to attend your special events, either in the City of Philadelphia, or in areas surrounding William Penn’s Green Country Towne.  Ben Franklin Today can speak to any and all groups on topics including American history, Philadelphia history, and the life that earned him the title “The First American.”
