Fifteen students from around Casper are currently participating in a week-long Future Historians Summer Camp. The program is presented by Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum, Fort Caspar Museum, National Historic Trails Interpretive Center and the Casper College Western History Center. The theme of this year's program is "Could You Survive?" The students are learning about surviving as a WWII bomber crew member, a mountain man, a member of the 11th Ohio Cavalry stationed at Fort Caspar, and as a pioneer traveling westward on the Oregon Trail. The camp provides a unique opportunity for the students to visit various local museums and locales, as well as working with museum artifacts.
The camp will culminate at the end of the week in a special "Spotlight Exhibit" at the Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum. Having learned about B-17 and B-24 bombers and the hazards of being a crewman, the students are designing their own exhibit which will be featured in the museum's main gallery. The exhibit will be on display through the summer.
