Alliance Française Dubai | Ahead of COP21 | Photo Exhibitions and Conferences in Sept & Oct 2015

Ahead of COP21 in Paris in November 2015, Alliance Française Dubai holds every month a series of cultural events and conferences around the Climate Change theme. Aiming to contribute in raising awareness about the challenging issues of global warning, Alliance Française Dubai invite Dubaians in September and October to watch, listen and debate.

Sept 16 til Oct 31 - Photo Exhibition 'Arctic Sentinels' by French Photographer & Journalist Nicolas Mingasson.

Nicolas Mingasson turns his photographer’s gaze towards people, men and women who found themselves in extreme situations. His works are from Bosnia, Afghanistan and Tibet. For the past 10 years however, Nicolas Mingasson gave his life and energy to Arctic. From January to September 2008, beyond the Arctic Circle, he worked on a series of portraits of emblematic characters while sharing nothernmost populations lives. From his ethnical and photographic exhibitions, ‘Arctic Sentinels’ have seen the light. Through this work, Nicolas Mingasson tries to set a meeting point between these populations living at the edge of the liveable world and us all. They are our sentinels, the first ones to deal with climate changes and their frightening effects.

This show is part of the Climate Change series of events initiated by Alliance Française Dubai ahead of COP21 in Paris in November 2015.

21 Sept till 31 Oct - 'Climate, the 360 Exhibition' - Photos and Videos
With the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris between Nov 30 and Dec 11, 'Climate, the 360 Exhibition' takes a closer look at the issues raisd by the increase in greenhouse gas emissions produced by human activity. It allows us to get a better understanding of our climate system through observations, simulations and researchers analyses.
This very educative exhibition is realised by Universciences.
> provides access to the latest news and data flows on the geopolitical, economic, energy, environmental, technological and scientific aspects of climate change.

> takes an in-depth look at the United Nations Climate Change Conference through role-play.

> fosters interaction with visitors via an audio-visual device which collects their opinions on civic and practical issues raised by climate change.

29 Sept – 'The Economic Challenges of COP21', A Conference by Christian de Perthuis, Economist and Professor at Paris-Dauphine University and Head of the Climate Economics Chair.

Ahead of 'Paris-Climat 2015' conference, Alliance Française Dubai and the French Business Council launched a series of conferences and events inviting key players and speakers to Dubai. This September 29, Christian de Perthuis, Economist and Professor at Paris-Dauphine University and Head of the Climate Economics Chair will speak about 'The Economic Challenges of COP21'.

What can we expect of COP21 which will bring together, from 30 November to 15 December in Paris, representatives of 195 countries? What could happen between December 2015 and January 2020, the date of entry into force of the future agreement, which will aim to concretely change the ways of acting on climate change?

Christian de Perthuis' research focuses on the economics of climate change and ecological transition. Author of several articles and books, he is co-author of Green Capital (Odile Jacob, 2013, Columbia University Press, 2015) and co-author of Le Climat, à quel prix? La négociation climatique (Odile Jacob, 2015) He chaired the «Green Tax Commission », which helped the French Government to set up a domestic carbon tax in 2014. 

On September 29, Christian de Perthuis will also present two of his last books: Le Climat, à quel prix? La négociation climatique (Odile Jacob, 2015) and Le Complot Climatique (L'Harmattan, 2014).

27 Oct - 'Climate is not an environmental matter - COP21 Challenges and Prospects' A Conference by François Gemenne, Executive Director 'Politics of Earth' and Associate Expert, Sciences Politiques Paris.
François Gemenne is a specialist of environmental geopolitics and lectures on these issues in various universities. His research mostly deals with populations displaced by environmental changes and the policies of adaptation to climate change. He has been involved in a large number of international research projects on these issues, including the EACH-FOR project, for which he supervised research in Asia-Pacific and Central Asia. In 2010, he was awarded the ISDT-Wernaers Prize for achievement in the communication of science to the general public.
